Pot dance

Water is the resource of life. Still today woman in India carry water in a pot on their heads to their house, they even dance with the painted pots on their heads. Normally a dancer has to fully concentrate on the whole body while dancing, in the pot dance she has to think beyond and integrate the pot into her concentration. A painted pot is called Nadu Karagarn in the Tamil language and that is also the name of this folk dance coming from a south eastern federal state of India. Is the dancer moving to the sound of music she is expressing that God has plessed us with a good life on earth and that we can be happy if we are honest and good.

Plate dance

Normally you think about eating when you see a plate. Our two dancers want to dance. The folk dance Taragam which is done on a plate comes from the federal state Andhra Pradesh which is located north of Tamil Nadu also at the East Coast of India. The dancers express love, worship and dedication to the three big religions in India: Hinudism, Islam and Christianity.

Kathak

To prepare yourself to be a bride is a real ceremony in India: many traditions have to be taken into account, many different creams and make-ups have to used on body and face. Finally beautiful jewelry grace the bride. Then the best friend of the bride is coming and makes fun of how the groom looks, how he speaks and how he moves. And the bride has to act very shy

Kathak is the only classical dance of Northern India. The creating powers of hindu and islamic dancing art are combined in this dance. Typical specialities of Kathak are the very complicated feet movements and pirouettes.

The dance is about the wedding and the beauty of the bride Her face is as beautiful as the shining moon in the sky. In India you wish the bride for her wedding: ,,May the full moon shine for you today and for the rest of your life!"
